Can Artificial Turf Be Installed over Concrete
Can artificial turf be installed over concrete? That’s a common question we get asked all the time. The simple answer is yes! There are a couple of different ways one can install artificial turf over concrete. Depending on the use of the area, one way might be suggested over the other. We want you to know that it can be done though, so don’t let any contractor tell you otherwise.
Installing Directly over Concrete
One way to install artificial turf over concrete is with glue. This can be a very messy and tricky installation process, but it works great. Artificial turf can be glued down directly on top of the concrete using an artificial grass adhesive. It’s important that the concrete area is clean before beginning installation so that the adhesive will properly bond with the concrete. Fill in any cracks or uneven surfaces, and remove anything in the area that may cause the area to be uneven. Once the area is prepped, the glue down installation process can begin by applying adhesive all over the entire perimeter of the artificial grass backing. Once the installation process is complete, you’ll have a beautiful, new artificial lawn area with no excavation of concrete.
Installing over AirDrains
Another way to install artificial turf over concrete is by installing it over AirDrains to help with better drainage in the area. If you have pets, drainage is extremely important. You’ll want a permeable backing artificial turf product and you’ll want the best drainage possible. AirDrains make proper drainage possible when it comes to installing artificial turf over concrete. AirDrains are installed over the concrete and then the artificial turf is installed over the AirDrains. The AirDrains allow for the liquids to make their way through the nonabsorbent plastic so that all the liquids will flow to the drains in the concrete. With this way of installing, you can be sure that all the liquids are finding their way to the drains and nothing is being left behind. Better drainage equals a better smelling yard when you have pets, so we always suggest this way of installing artificial turf over concrete when a homeowner has dogs. It looks great and once again, there is zero excavation of concrete required.
