Different Attributes to Artificial Turf
When it comes to artificial turf, not all artificial turf products are the same. There are different attributes to artificial turf that make them all different. Not only with what they are made of, but how they are made as well. Almost every artificial turf product is different in some way. Whether it’s the features one product contains that another does not, or the materials in which they were made, artificial turf products are not created equal. Permeable Backings
Our DuraFlo and UltraFlow backings provide a 100% permeable backing that allows for drainage throughout the entire product. The DuraFlo backing drains at an average rate of 167” per hour and the UltraFlow backing drains at an average rate of 400” per hour. A 100% permeable backing is needed if you have pets that use the artificial turf area because after watering it down, the urine can then drain through the product all the way to the base underneath. Having sufficient drainage is also good for when it rains. The polyolefin materials in the DuraFlo backing also make the product nonabsorbent as well, where as urethane backings absorb 5%-6% of moisture. A nonabsorbent backing can help eliminate odors from urine when you have pets using the area.
Heat Reduction Technology
Artificial turf is hot! There is no way around that fact, but we can help to reduce how hot it is. Our artificial turf products have heat reduction technology built into the fibers so that our artificial turf can provide a reduced heat. Our products are about 20 degrees cooler than a regular artificial turf product without this technology. This is great for kids and pets that use the artificial turf areas.
Little to No Shine
What makes artificial turf look so fake most of the time is how shiny it is. The reflection of light on the plastic makes the turf look super fake and shiny. Our artificial turf has very low luster to it, making it look more realistic. With little to no shine in our artificial turf products, your neighbors will have to do a double take to figure out if it’s a fake lawn or not. The more realistic the artificial turf looks, the better. Installing a product that has little to no shine to it is the way to go!
Recyclable
No pun intended, but not all synthetic turf products are truly “GREEN!” The majority of the turf products available on the market today are made of components that would have to be separated from each other in order to be called recyclable (urethane and latex rubber, nylon fibers, etc.). The likelihood that these non-recyclable parts will be separated from the recyclable polyolefin is low, meaning most turf products being installed today are bound for a landfill. With millions of square feet being installed every year, it is shaping up to create a serious disposal issue as turf begins to reach the end of its effective life. ProLawn’s DuraFlo products are 100% recyclable in their installed form and create a closed-loop system where reclaimed turf, minus the infill, can be recycled into the adhesive application process. They are made from 100% polyolefin materials and are not landfill bound. They are truly “GREEN” products!
